updates!!

okay, quick update from the house of duncan!!

after 3 weeks of having the house listed, we are under contract.  because we were able to sell by owner, we are not going to have to pay to walk away from the house, since we have only owned it 18 months.  we are only guaranteed 18 months for every subsequent assignment, so we aren't going to buy in KS, though rent for our large crew is crazy high.  much cheaper to buy there, but then we would have to sell it again.

on the 13th, joshy sustained another head injury.  he has just learned to ride his bike on 2 wheels.  we were taking a family walk and danny cut in front of him, not maliciously, but it still sent josh into the ditch with the boulders.  joshy went over his handle bars and sliced open his head.  he bled oh so much, and got 4 staples in his noggin.  huge kudos for Central Carolina Hospital!!!  they are amazing with children!!

now i am flying to KS to walk through some possible rental homes and spending some time with my parents.  i am looking forward to it.  i have not had this chance since getting married.  i always come with someone else along, so this will be a treat to interact with my folks by myself.

please pray for me, i hate flying!!!  and praise God with us for selling the house quickly!!

got the house listed!

we have the house listed now, we can relax a bit right?? or not.  i have to keep this place show clean till it's sold.  i shared some photos of the place.  notice how pretty the walls are painted, yes they are pretty aren't they??

anyway, JJ finally stopped throwing up yesterday around 5pm.  so i am drowned in laundry, but the house is listed!!  and while i was typing this, Joshy got sick right here on the carpet again.  another great and wonderful day in our home!!

just one day closer...

we are just one day closer to listing the house.  yesterday we got the back yard photographed, we refreshed the landscaping in the front, and touched up some more dings that life dealt the walls.  today we should have it ready to go.

however, with every step forward there are new challenges to be dealt.  last night it was the sudden sickness of the 4 yr old, who did a very good job of running to the bathroom before throwing up.  early this morning, the baby picked up his version of the same bug and can't keep anything down aside from water.  so offer up prayers for us as we battle the projects that need to be done and keeping up after two sick children.

fort riley, here we come!!

i apologize for this being so very boring to read these days!!  it seems like we made it home from the holidays and life just turned it up a notch, so i feel like i am trying to catch a train that is swiftly moving away from me.

we got our orders today: fort riley, kansas.  we will be arriving in June to begin life again in the midwest.  we are going home to our roots and excited about the prospect.  it's been too many years away from our families and we are ready to begin building relationships!!

please continue to pray for us as we attempt to sell our home in this current economy and market.  and for the children.  they are asking daily if we are taking their toys, their clothes, and if we will be making any friends at fort riley.  so this will be tough since they are older for this move.  thanks!!!
December 30

we are home!!

we have returned to the sunny and warm state of North Carolina!!  the first thing my kids wanted to do was shed their coats and hit the playset!  it was nice being in my own bed again and having my tub back.  there really is something to coming back home.

it was overall an enjoyable vacation.  but missing out on the daily routine of lives and not being around for all the little changes that happen over time left me feeling a slight disconnect.  almost like people didn't know how to react to me, just as i didn't always know how to react to them.  and there were large groups of my extended family that i didn't get to see.  maybe next time.  but a whole year away was too much.  but we truly do miss our family!!  it's very hard missing so much being this far away.

Thank you for posting that video.  I laughed out loud!  I think I've seen that act in person, though.  It never gets old.

What you've said about parenting is so true.  We must constantly examine ourselves and be cognizant of what we are passing on.  It takes serious consideration of the valuable traits we learned from our own parents, and the behaviors we'd like to change.  The implementation is the real trick, though.
